Getting the right message in front of the right people is so difficult. That’s where awareness campaign videos come in. They can be the missing piece of the puzzle, making sure that your message is heard and that your audience stays engaged long enough to take action. Video is an effective way for charities, nonprofits and change makers to connect with people and shed light on specific issues or events.
At Neck of the Woods Films we recognise that spreading awareness can sometimes be half the battle. We’ve created films that have highlighted social justice issues, made specific pieces of information more widely accessible and generated public interest. We’ve made these films for charities, nonprofits and other organisations who are looking to make a real difference in the world, something we feel incredibly proud of.
Hero films aren’t just for brands, they’re also a powerful way of campaigning for awareness. A campaign video can shed light on social issues. They can also be the glue that holds together various campaign elements. Having a central film, with other videos and content set around it, can help organisations to run long term campaigns for maximum impact.
Awareness isn’t always about facts, figures and stories of widespread injustice. Often, the story of a single person’s experience can be a snapshot of why change needs to happen. This can be just as powerful for raising awareness. Documentary films are powerful ways of telling these stories and helping to motivate potential change makers.
Sometimes, the issue that needs awareness is so complex or specific that only an animation can capture it. With animation it can be much easier to demonstrate complex social issues or injustices. It’s also much easier to visualise statistics and figures which can boost the efforts of awareness campaigns.
We’ve worked with organisations of all shapes and sizes, from large national charities like Drinkaware and Book Aid to small local charities like Southampton Hospitals Charity and York Road Project. We’ve told stories that have been used to inspire local communities and reach people through national campaigns. Our showreel contains some of our favourite awareness videos.

Centre for Ageing Better are a charity that raise awareness on issues surrounding ageing in the UK. They also build on this. The charity looks to proactively encourage programmes and reforms that make ageing in the UK a more positive and equitable experience.
We created this film to help them give a clear picture of what ageing in the UK was like in 2022. The film is based entirely on real experiences and demonstrates the need for an Older People’s Commissioner.
Every year the charity Drinkaware commissions a survey to try and understand the drinking habits of the nation. They share their findings as a way of increasing awareness around drinking and the potential dangers.
We created a series of animations that visualised the lived experiences of some of the people the charity spoke with. Using anonymised stories, we were able to bring these experiences to life through animation and raise awareness about alcohol consumption.
The WPSM team at University of Southampton are responsible for making sure that more students can participate in the university experience. They look to increase the number of students coming from non-traditional backgrounds. The team also work to make sure that everyone can make the most of their time at the university. One way they do this is through their Academic Skills Service.
We worked with them to create 2 films that formed part of a campaign to increase uptake of this service. This included creating a film that highlighted how students could access the service and a video about the team themselves.
SoCo Music Project is a charity that supports people through music and creativity. Through increasing participation, the charity looks to use the power of music to positively impact the community. They run programmes with carers, ex-offenders and organisations like CAMHS in order to change lives through music.
We created a documentary for the charity. The film expresses the idea that music is a powerful force for good. Through capturing a real story, it shows potential participants and funders the real world impact the charity has.
We work with change makers to create campaign videos about positive change, human achievement and social impact. It may be the story that builds local awareness or the hero film that spearheads a national fundraising campaign. If you’re looking to change the world in some way, you need these stories to be told well. Non-profits make our world better every day, but they aren’t always the best at telling these stories. We’re a full service video agency that helps charities, non profits and educators do just that.
How we craft your campaign video
If you’re looking to create an awareness campaign video that really connects with people, then having a detailed and open briefing process is the best place to start. We ask questions, challenge you and learn as much as we can about your organisation and your brief.
We love this part of the process, It’s the first opportunity in a project to think big and get creative. We take all of our thoughts, ideas and interpretations of a project and combine them into an easy to understand document for you to mull over.
We’re planners by nature, which we use to our advantage when it comes to making your campaign video. We don’t always strictly follow a concrete plan, but creating one in the first place means we can all be on the same page and pulling in the same creative direction.
This is what we live for; the part where we get to film, edit and animate your story. All of the thinking and planning culminates in the creation of an awareness campaign video that you can be proud to share with your audience.
The project has come to an end, sign-off has been given and we deliver your video in an upload-friendly format. But your journey is just starting! Now you get to share the project with the people who matter most.
Awareness campaign videos for charities, non profits and educators
Here are some frequently asked questions we hear from people who are looking to produce a campaign video for their organisation.
The cost of a video will vary depending on the video you are looking to make. There are various stages of the video production process that can have an impact on the price including how many days of filming that are required, the complexity of the edit and whether the video needs a professional voiceover, actors, presenters and/or animation.
Similarly to the price, the amount of time it will take to produce your video can depend on the requirements of the video. This is something that we will discuss with you in the kick-off meeting to ensure your deadline and timescales for the project are achievable. Generally speaking we start with the end date for the project. From here we can work backwards to check feasibility, create milestones and plot this into a project timeline.
The more we know about your organisation, your service users and the campaign video you’re looking to create the better. If you’re unsure about which direction you’re looking to go in with your video, then get in touch and we can work with you to help shape your ideas. Our favourite way to work all of this out is to have a briefing call with you. We use this as an opportunity to get to know you better. The information that we learn here can also feed into our proposal.

We worked with Neck of the Woods to create a new, signature video for our charity and also social cuts from this. They were an absolute pleasure to work with from the very start and their professionalism and passion ensured that the end results were brilliant.
We had the absolute pleasure of working with NOTW Films back in September and the experience will stay with us for a lifetime. From the very beginning of our project, they were nothing short of incredible and really took our very basic idea and turned it into something special. After a few positive planning meetings, they came to film and blew us away. It's safe to say every single member of our team who met them fell in love and we're all now individually plotting how we can work with them constantly going forward. The film they created surpassed all of our expectations and left us speechless.
"Our experience of working with NOTW is very positive, from the start they understood what we wanted to get out of the project and were empathetic to our cause. They guided us through the process with ease and we loved having them with us. They were honest in their approach and directed us with their knowledge on what would work best for the films we wanted to produce. The team are amazing, professional, compassionate and the films they produced for us really showcase who we are and we are really proud of them."
Working with Neck of the Woods Films is a delight. From the proposal and pre-production stage, all the way through to adding the final touches to the films, they are incredibly patient and ardent.
They passionately take on all elements of the project, engrossing themselves in the films and the work informing them. Neck of the Woods bring the perfect balance of experience, vision and trust of the client to deliver on projects that exceed our expectations.
"We work with at risk targeted groups and vulnerable communities and every time we book the services of Neck of the Woods we have absolute trust and confidence in their ability to provide honest, professional and high quality production. They are a dream to work with, flexible to our needs, communication is always clear and they actively listen to our visions. Their ability to work sensitively and stealthily where appropriate is a skill we massively respect."
