Our hopes for 2019

2019 goals

2018 was a great year for us. We performed well financially, we worked on a host of projects that we can be really proud of and we learned a lot about ourselves and the work that we do. It’s that time of year where we not only look back on the year that’s just gone, but more importantly think about the upcoming year and how we can do better. For those not looking to read an obligatory new year’s resolution post, now is your chance to click off but if you are then read on to find out what our resolutions are for 2019.

1. To explore new ways of telling stories

What we’ve always been interested in is telling stories and doing our best to make sure that they connect with people. In doing so, we’ve learned that there are even more ways to tell a story than we imagined and in 2019 we want to do everything we can to try and explore some of these. Be it through new types of video, different formats, new equipment or by working with new collaborators, this is one of our most important aims for the new year. In particular, we’ll be looking at how we can make the most of interviews and how we as interviewers can draw the best possible answers. On top of this, we’ll also be exploring new ways of editing and how it can be used to support the stories we’re telling rather than just as a way of creating a video.

2. To continue to learn and grow technically

There’s always more to learn, even on subjects that we’ve been working in for a long time, and each year we do our best to make sure that we continue to learn from every project. 2019 is no different, and over the course of the year we’re aiming to learn as much as we possibly can. This may be through the projects we work on, by talking to other people in creative fields, attending courses & training or through independent study, whichever route we take by the end of 2019 we look to be better filmmakers and story tellers than we were the year before. We don’t plan on adding services that our clients and collaborators don’t need, instead we want to take the time and make the effort to make sure that the services we do provide are the best they can be and refining our skills in order to do so.

3. To continue investing sensibly and purposefully

We feel that if we’re going to grow and progress then we need to make sure that we stay up-to-date with equipment and expertise. For us, making sure that we invest the right amount in the right places is essential for doing this. We love gear, but we accept that we only need gear that is going to tell our client’s stories in the best way. Over the course of 2019 we aim to invest in areas that will make our projects better and will help our clients and collaborators to reach their goals and objectives.

4. To become more connected with our local community and do more good

It’s always been a mission of ours to include our local community in our business. From day one we’ve looked to work with local community groups and charities and to use our filmmaking ability and equipment to make a positive impact. In 2018 the number of community partnerships and projects increased and our aim and hope for 2019 is that this continues. We love the city of Southampton and the county of Hampshire and our hope is that in 2019 our work will make a positive impact for the people who live here.

5. To think carefully about the projects we work on

One of the really interesting things about our field of work is that you get to build really strong relationships with people. That’s always been important to us and 2019 will be no different for us. In fact, we aim to have an even stronger focus on strengthening relationships with our current clients and building new partnerships and relationships. As a part of this, we will be making sure that the projects we take on are projects where we can positively contribute and where we can help the client to achieve their aims. In 2019 we’ll be placing even more emphasis on strong long term relationships where we can grow alongside our clients over looking just for short term projects.

Video partnerships

By the end of this year we want to be better filmmakers, better storytellers and better members of our community. Our goals may change over the course of the year and we may end up finding new goals to go on top, but in January of 2019 this is what we’re driving for. We’re excited about the potential that the new year brings and we hope that for everyone this is a year that pushes you to achieve what you want to achieve and ultimately brings you the success you’re looking for.
