The Department of Sport and Exercise at the University of Winchester needed a new way to reach out to potential students and to demonstrate their facilities and wide range of expertise. They tasked us with creating a film in order to do this. The film would be used online and at open days so they needed it to be engaging and informative, but also to tell a genuine student story. It needed to have a very particular voice and to connect with a very specific market.
We worked with the department to identify a student whose story would resonate with other students. After speaking with her, we began working on scenarios that we could film for the visuals. Using all the tools we had at our disposal, we were able to work in a functioning university whilst still getting the shots that helped to tell Gemma’s story. Using the interview we captured, we were able to share her experiences and give a genuine and positive outlook on what the department has to offer.

We wanted this film to break the mould, and to go beyond what people expect from a prospectus video. This was not purely about promoting the courses on offer from the Sport and Exercise Department, this was about sharing the experiences of a student who has grown and flourished there. There was no hard sell, no pitch, just sharing of someone’s experience and hoping that it would resonate.
