Charity Event Video Production: How Centrepoint’s 2024 Award Films Celebrate Resilience

Centrepoint is the UK’s leading charity supporting young people experiencing homelessness. They provide housing, education, employment support, and health services to help young people build brighter futures. Each year, Centrepoint honours the incredible achievements of young people who have worked with them to overcome adversity and achieve extraordinary things.

At the heart of this annual celebration is a star-studded awards event, but the real stars are the young people themselves. Despite high-profile attendees, the event keeps the focus firmly on their inspiring journeys.

Centrepoint asked us to create a series of films that would both capture the essence of the event, with a general film shown on the night, and tell the individual stories of the award winners through powerful short films.

These films needed to shine a light on the young people’s journeys while also showcasing the power of charity event films in raising awareness for youth homelessness and the crucial role Centrepoint and its partners play in supporting young people. The challenge was to create something heartfelt and authentic, ensuring that Centrepoint’s role was recognised without overshadowing the young people’s voices.

What we did
How We Created Centrepoint’s Charity Event Films

To tell these stories in the most genuine and powerful way, we conducted pre-interviews with each young person to ensure we were faithfully representing their stories and that they felt comfortable with the process. These early conversations helped us understand their journeys deeply and shape the narrative in a way that felt authentic. We then sourced a London location where we invited the young people and their nominators to take part in honest, open conversations. These discussions didn’t shy away from the harsh realities of youth homelessness but ultimately leaned into the hope, resilience, and achievements of these young people—reflecting the positive tone Centrepoint wanted.

On set, we worked to create an atmosphere that was positive and celebratory. We also shot extensive coverage of the event itself, ensuring we had high-quality footage for a quick-turnaround film to be released within 48 hours of the event. This footage was also incorporated into the individual winner films, providing a cohesive and dynamic visual narrative.—making each young person feel like the hero of their own story.

Filming took place over two days with a tight production schedule. Post-production was intensive, as the event deadline was looming, and we had to turn the films around quickly. We carefully transcribed each conversation to ensure we fully understood the stories and selected the most impactful moments while maintaining a strong narrative. Additionally, we designed bespoke motion graphics to enhance the storytelling, adding clarity to key messages and adding an extra layer of polish.

How Charity Event Films Inspire and Engage Audiences

We felt incredibly privileged to be in the presence of these inspiring young people and to hear their stories first-hand. Their resilience and determination left a lasting impression on us. It was clear why they had been chosen for these awards, and we left the experience feeling deeply inspired and hopeful—proof that change is possible, both at an individual and societal level.

The fast-paced nature of this project, the passion of everyone involved, and the sheer impact of these stories made this an unforgettable experience. We’re incredibly proud of how the films turned out and how they honoured the young people at the heart of Centrepoint’s mission.
