UK Youth commissioned a case study film to showcase the impact that residential visits to Avon Tyrrell can have for young people with disabilities.
The audience was schools, charities, and organisations looking for meaningful residential experiences they could offer the young people they support. The film needed to help decision-makers feel the value of a trip to Avon Tyrrell, not just understand it on paper.
This was never simply about promoting a centre. It was about showing what can happen when barriers are removed and young people are given the chance to take part fully.
For many young people with disabilities, adventurous physical activity is not always easy to access. Avon Tyrrell creates opportunities that might otherwise be missed, giving young people the chance to try new things, build confidence, and enjoy being active alongside their peers.
The challenge was capturing that spirit truthfully. We couldn’t stage moments or over-direct participants. The story had to come from real experiences as they unfolded across the visit.
We took a mixed documentary approach, combining real-time activity coverage with interviews from participants and people attending from partner organisations.
Throughout the shoot, we focused on moments that showed confidence growing in real time. Young people taking part in activities, encouraging one another, trying something new, and clearly enjoying themselves gave the film its emotional centre.
These moments were paired with interviews that added reflection and context, helping audiences understand why experiences like this matter and what impact they can have beyond the day itself.
The visual style was fun, energetic, and people-led. We wanted the film to reflect the excitement of being there rather than feeling like a formal promotional video.
Because authenticity mattered, we worked carefully around the programme rather than trying to control it. That allowed the final film to feel genuine, with the energy coming from real participation rather than manufactured scenes.
