Autistica’s Our World, 2030 project was all about imagining a future where the world is truly inclusive for autistic people. But rather than just talking about it, the film needed to show how tough the world can be right now. We wanted to highlight the everyday challenges autistic people face, using real people and real experiences to bring those moments to life.
The film had to be bold, engaging, and a true champion of Autistica’s work—something that would stand out while staying true to their mission.
We pitched a bunch of different ideas before Autistica landed on this one. From the start, we knew authenticity was key. We collaborated with a steering group of autistic people to ensure the film was as representative as possible, making sure their insights shaped the narrative. Rather than speaking for autistic people, we worked to give them a voice, making sure the film reflected their real experiences.
With a short script, every shot had to count. We planned meticulously—storyboarding every frame and carefully mapping out each camera movement so that the visuals really pushed the story forward.
We shot over three days with a small (but mighty) crew and a whole lot of kit. Using real locations kept the film grounded, though it definitely came with its challenges. Time was tight, but because we’d planned so precisely, we managed to get everything we needed without compromise.
Editing came together seamlessly—everything slotted into place thanks to the work we’d put in upfront.

The final film is fun and engaging but never patronising. It captures real experiences in a way that’s both playful and thought-provoking, staying true to the voices of autistic people while championing Autistica’s work. We’re seriously proud of how Our World, 2030 came together—it’s a film with real heart, and we hope it makes a difference.
